How much does local SEO cost?

Local SEO is almost always a monthly service, so the real question is what the retainer costs and what you get for it. Here is what a contractor should expect to pay in 2026, the common package models, what moves the price up or down, and how to tell a fair quote from a bad one. Every CurbSide figure below is the same price we publish on our pricing page.

The short answer

The quick numbers, up front

For a local exterior contractor, local SEO is a monthly retainer, sometimes with a one-time website cost to get a rank-ready site in place first.

  • Monthly local SEO retainer: $997 to $2,500 a month, with most contractors starting at $997 to $1,497.
  • One-time website first, if needed: a new build runs $2,500 to $6,000, or an overhaul of your current site runs $997 to $1,997.
  • Watch the low end: packages under about $500 a month usually skip the work that actually ranks you. More on that below.

What drives the price

Why one local SEO retainer costs more than another

Two quotes can look far apart for good reasons. Three things decide where a retainer lands.

How competitive your market is

Ranking in a dense metro against ten established competitors takes more monthly content, reviews, and links than a small market. The tougher the market, the higher the retainer needed to move.

How many services and towns

Every service you offer and every town you cover is another page to build and rank. Expanding into more services and neighboring markets is what moves you from an entry retainer to a higher tier.

How much work ships each month

Rankings compound with the pages, reviews, and links produced each month. A higher retainer buys more monthly output, which is what pulls you up faster and holds the spot once you are there.

The models

Common local SEO pricing models

Agencies package local SEO a few different ways. Here is how to read each one.

Monthly retainer

The standard model, and the one we use. A flat monthly fee for ongoing work: Google Business Profile management, ranking pages, content, and reviews. Best when priced by tier, so you can scale up as you grow.

Per-hour or per-project

Some agencies bill hourly or per deliverable. It can work for a one-off fix, but local SEO is ongoing, so a project model often leaves the compounding work undone once the project ends.

The cheap flat package

The $200 to $400 a month package is usually a dashboard and a few automated tasks, not real ranking work. It looks like SEO but rarely moves you, so it tends to be the most expensive option in the end.

Cost versus value

Price the leads, not just the retainer

A retainer only looks expensive until you compare it to what you already spend to get a lead.

Renting leads from Angi or Google Local Services charges you per lead, shares that lead with competitors, and stops the day you stop paying. A local SEO retainer builds rankings you own, and the cost per lead keeps dropping as those rankings compound. Judge the retainer by the booked jobs it produces, not the monthly line item.

  • Rented leads: pay per lead, shared, priced up every year, gone when you stop.
  • Paid ads: steady, but the clicks stop the day the budget does.
  • Local SEO retainer: slower to build, but you own the rankings and cost per lead falls over time.

Local SEO cost FAQ

Common questions about local SEO cost

For most local exterior contractors, a local SEO retainer runs $997 to $1,497 a month, and up to $2,500 for aggressive expansion into new services and markets. There may be a one-time website build or overhaul first, from $997. Every price is public on our pricing page.

A real local SEO package includes Google Business Profile management, new local ranking pages each month, service and city pages, on-page SEO, and a review generation engine, all reported in calls and leads. If a package is only a dashboard and a monthly report, it is not doing the work that ranks you.

Three things drive it: how competitive your market is, how many services and towns you want to rank for, and how much work ships each month. A small market with one service costs far less to rank than a metro with ten competitors and a dozen service pages.

Rarely. A $200 to $400 a month package usually buys automated tasks and a vanity dashboard, not the pages, reviews, and links that actually move rankings. It looks cheap, but paying for months of work that never ranks you is the most expensive option in the end.

Mostly monthly. Ranking in local search is ongoing work that compounds, so it is a retainer, not a one-time project. There can be a one-time website build or overhaul up front to get a rank-ready site in place, and then the monthly retainer does the climbing and holding.
